Why an online price can only go so far
Two rings that look similar in a photo can need very different repairs. A thin band, hidden wear, loose stones or a previous repair can change the plan. A price based only on the name of the service may leave out important work.
A photograph helps identify the likely repair. It cannot confirm metal thickness, stone security or every earlier repair. Ask what is included and whether inspection could change the initial estimate.

- Any limits or visible changes to expect
- The expected completion date
- What happens if further damage is found

The number of breaks, chain construction and remaining strength of the links matter. A single accessible solder joint differs from rebuilding several worn links. Replacement parts or a clasp are additional elements to discuss.
Compare the total quote with the cost of a suitable replacement and the piece’s personal value. Repair can make sense for a sentimental item even if replacement is cheaper. If wear is widespread, repeat repairs may be poor value.
Do not assume so. Ask whether suitable cleaning and finishing are included and whether any stones or finishes limit the method that can be used.
Photos are a useful starting point, but an exact price may need physical inspection. Send a clear view of the whole piece, the damage and any hallmark, without trying to pull damaged parts apart.
